Property Damage Tips

Has your vehicle been damaged in a car crash? Here are a few things to think about to make sure you get the full value of your property damage claim:

1. Diminished value. Even if your car was expertly repaired, a car is always worth less after a wreck. The difference is a claim for “diminished value” and can be substantial for higher-end cars.

2. Loss of use. After you come to terms on a value for your car, remember to pursue a claim for “loss of use” or for the value of an equivalent rental car while you were deprived of the use of your car.

3. New tires or other upgrades. New tires and some other upgrades can increase the value of a car, and your compensation should be based on the fair market value of your car including these items.

4. Personal property. If you have personal property damaged in the accident (glasses, phone, laptop, camera, etc.) remember to include these in your claim before signing a release.
